Five Steps to A Successful Studio Sale Utilizing Instagram and Email
Part I - Introduction
This article series will walk you through, in a very detailed way, how to use Instagram to build your mailing list every month by utilizing specific strategies and leveraging print giveaways. (If you don’t have prints you could use a Print-on-Demand service such as the one included with FASO)
As a reminder, the goal of your awareness marketing:
The goal of all awareness marketing in general, and this Instagram process specifically is to move people from Instagram to your own newsletter list: from earned media to owned media in the form of your house mailing list.
Your “house mailing list” will be your primary marketing asset and something you will be organizing, maintaining and building for the rest of your life or, at least, the rest of your art career. A properly populated and segmented mailing list is going to be the lifeblood of the whole process and your whole marketing plan.
Before You Start the Studio Sale Process:
You need an Instagram account set up and active
You need an up to date website with your recent works, up-to-date bio, etc
You will need to connect with six colleagues or friends whom you will work with to cross-promote one-another’s Instagram posts. (This will be explained in the steps below)
The Process, In General:
Post new work as often as you can on Instagram: reels, videos, images, carousels, stories.
Always be promoting on both your website and Instagram.
About your followers on Instagram - focus on quality, not quantity - Some accounts may have high followers and few buyers. You want buyers to follow you, so the absolute number is not critical. You want the right people, and to find them, you will focus on people who will hand over their hard earned dollars for your work.
Factoid: Using the following method that we are going to outline in this document, one of our artists, working with BoldBrush made over $65,000 from his studio sale on Instagram in one month.
Quick Overview:
You are going to build a following on Instagram, entice people who follow you to sign up for your email list with giveaways (usually free print giveaways), and importantly, you conduct the giveaways via your newsletter.
You do not do the giveaways on Instagram. You tease the giveaways on Instagram to get people to get on your newsletter list, and then you conduct the giveaways with your newsletter. Then you announce the winners on Instagram to close the loop and start the process again.
