I sometimes think of the intersection between volition and intuition as the crucible through which something new is created. It's the point where we reach new levels in our work. It's why we do color charts, gesture and other practice drawings, practice squinting to see value relationships even when were not painting, read and view the work of master artists.
The more the basics become second nature the more intuitive moments we have while working.
One can definitely feel the switch in the brain to using the right-hand side of the brain from the left side when creating art. This scientist turned artist feels the switch going back and forth all the time. My brain uses both sides when creating art, especially when creating trompe l'oeil paintings.
"If someone thinks it looks real, it is a still life, if they think it is real, it is a trompe l'oeil"
The art of deception is created by painting various items in such a way as to give the illusion that the three-dimensional items actually exist. If viewers feel compelled to touch the paintings to see if the items are real, then I feel like I have accomplished my goal.

Only a true and living artist can create with a HEART from the Greatest Creator, God!
Another example of the wide range of artistic pathways being explored out there. Always inspiring. Thanks! TomBaileyArt.com
Howdy, Clint!
I've just begun a new series that takes the next step beyond just painting the subject. Here's a sample:
