Wow! Great verbal rampage and I felt all of your humanity in it!! I AM WITH YOU! I’ve been with FASO since 2019 and I’m not going anywhere. Thanks for your support and all the resources you provide to get our art shared with the world. Here’s to being human.
I greatly appreciate your emails! I'm looking at updating content and will be posting recent work soon.
In the last couple of years, my health has made painting difficult. I'm ready to get back to making art and appreciate all you do for myself and other artists. Thank you!
Few of us can say what beauty is, but most of us know it when we see it. But many of us are all to quick to describe as beautiful, artwork that is not quite there yet. We want to be nice. We want to be supportive. So when a "friend" posts a not quite ready for prime time painting we heap praise on it. But our good intentions may encourage folks to paint for "likes" that are not really genuine.
I constantly tell students "Post no painting before it's time". Do they listen? No. We're all too eager to have our egos stroked. It clouds our judgement.. And distracts us from putting in the effort is takes to master our craft and create a truly beautiful piece. The vicious circle can leave us overestimating how good we really are. In that sense, social media does us a great disservice. The best way to resist is, "Paint more, post less".
This is such a great article that spells everything I've been noticing & telling ppl since about 2010 that I think I will print it and paste it into my art diary where I'm allowed anything off the beaten track. Thank you for saying out loud what we all know and have also been trying to share to the ostriches in the sand. (Sorry ostriches, the animals, not the humans...)
I am certainly with you. I encourage everyone to get involved with your local art associations and community art centers. These nurture and support real human artists. Also the big national and regional groups such as AIS, NOAPS, WAOW, PSWC and many others support and promote real human artists. My local community art center nurtures young future human artists with summer classes for children.
This is so good and so true, Clint! "They" have removed all soul from art. (This reminds me of the story when Jesus overturned the tables at the temple because they were selling slop!) I'm not a big AI fan. I use it at times for fleshing out a marketing plan that I have developrd but am not relying on it for my business. 'It' has no soul. I have a soul. I won't sell my soul to 'it'. I love your statement, "A culture that doesn't tolerate countercultures is just a cult. " That's so good! Great tirade! I love it!
PS: I listen to those country music stars you named. I'm a fan! And I also love the blues and classic rock. Real music, all of them!
