I recall working as an assistant to a number of professional photographers at once a few that had worked assisting Yousuf Karsh, one who worked for Time/Life - another for House Beautiful and one who was very skilled in liquor commercials and I was starting out my career in fashion and after I had my first ad published in Vogue Magazine I called up a well known Photographer named Irving Penn who had done editorial work as well as ads in Vogue (some in the same issue I was in) and I asked him how to get work
and he (Penn) told me very directly that he was having enough trouble getting work himself - so that meant he had absolutely no advice to give me
later I asked my friend Marcos Grigorian - a famous artist who work is in MOMA and in the Rockefeller Collection and he happily told me to do as much work as I can while I was still young and able
I liked your advise. I belong to an art group that does shows to promote ourselves. It is help for to enjoy sharing our challenges and successes.
That’s the best, isn’t it? When you can share the journey with peers! Thanks for reading Lealey
I like the idea of sharing posts of other artists.
Thanks Doreen!
