While I don’t really need the income to pay bills, I have been relying on sales and likes to validate my work. Thank you Clint for the wisdom in returning to being the sole judge of my work. Likes and sales produce temporary dopamine. Painting for myself releases oxytocin. I feel like I experience love, especially when I forget about imagining what others may think.

Thank you so much for this; I really needed to see this right now. At 70 years old I recognize that my time is shorter, and I don't want to waste creative energy on trying to manage an online art business, as so many around me are pushing me to do. I will post pics of my art, but I realize that I've survived this long without a lot of sales, and will joyfully continue to do so, just loving what I create from my soul. A truly helpful article!
