While I don’t really need the income to pay bills, I have been relying on sales and likes to validate my work. Thank you Clint for the wisdom in returning to being the sole judge of my work. Likes and sales produce temporary dopamine. Painting for myself releases oxytocin. I feel like I experience love, especially when I forget about imagining what others may think.

Thank you so much for this; I really needed to see this right now. At 70 years old I recognize that my time is shorter, and I don't want to waste creative energy on trying to manage an online art business, as so many around me are pushing me to do. I will post pics of my art, but I realize that I've survived this long without a lot of sales, and will joyfully continue to do so, just loving what I create from my soul. A truly helpful article!

Mi soffermo solamente su una frase , dove esprimi il valore della tua arte nell'ANIMA ". NO ASSOLUTAMENTE NO... , L'ANIMA E' UN CONCETTO RELIGIOSO ,POTREMMO DIRE CREATO AD ARTE ...PER UNA MANIPOLAZIONE E FALSITA' TOTALE DELLA REALTA' E DELLE NOSTRE ORIGINI, POSSIAMO INVECE DESCRIVERLO COME LA " COSCIENZA UMANA ",CHE RACCHIUDE TUTTA LA SPIRITUALITA' E CREATIVITA' COSCIENTEMENTE NELLE PROPRIE INNATE ATTITUDINI NON SOLO RIGUARDANTE L'ARTE MA NELL' INTERO PATRIMONIO PERSONALE E CULTURALE UMANO.

When I was in my late 20's I had a job hanging photo exhibits, most of the exhibitors worked for National Geographic, or The Washington Post, plus other famous photographers such as Fred Maroon, some time amateurs were allowed to exhibit. The amateurs would get upset when a guest posted a negative comment in the guest book. When I asked the professional photographers about that their response was "Once you hang it on the wall everybody has their own opinion". I have used that philosophy when creating my art, I have some pieces that some people love passionately and others hate. So I don't pay attention to comments but create what I like and looks good to my eye. It's my vision that I want to gratify, not what I think will appeal to potential buyers.
