I find the opposite. I like to have my art front and center so I see it first thing in the morning and all day long. So it's not "set apart". But it is sacred and I'll try to make it more sacred after reading your post!
"Set apart" is meaning your work space is "set apart" either physically or mentally (ideally both) so that it becomes a "sacred" space in which you drop all the other worries of the world and enter into flow. It wasn't saying literally to set your art works apart from everything else.
