Terrific thoughts and interestingly enough, very similar to a blog post I just finished published. (Although you have reminded me that I need to practice sketching regularly again.)
Yes I agree with what you wrote. I find entering plein aire competitions gives me a little more incentive to push myself to get better. And meet new people. I take lessons, read books and practice. 3 years ago I used to be a full time caricature artist when circumstances changed and I was able to paint full time which has always been my dream. Very grateful for that. Not making any money but I market the best way I can. It does get discouraging at times but an artist I am and always will be. It’s acceptance and the process’s journey not the outcome is what keeps me going. When the muse smiles at me with a reward I dig it then get back to work!! I love my life.
How very true about networking! The majority of my sales is to people who know me or know about me, who like my personality or have heard from other artists who know and like me! If they come to my studio, they end up coming back again and again, so most of my buyers are collectors. 😁
We are starting an artist network in Houston. If we may quote your article on networks and give you credit for the article. please send a simple authorization email to irissalmins@gmail.com
Dear Debra, thank you very much for this amazing article. Absolutely agree with you and personally grateful to find this type of reminders on BoldBrash content. I always feel and know, when you seek an inspiration and motivation it is around you, just open your eyes widely. With appreciation, Natalia :)).
